Does the color of your clothing really make a difference?

The psychology of color:

Studies have shown that the colors you decide to wear in an interview can actually make a difference. In the competitive world we live in you need to ensure that you take every advantage you possibly can.

Different colors evoke different emotions and it is imperative when you're interviewing that you evoke the right emotions from the interviewer.

Examples:

Blue: Words that describe the color blue include: trust, loyalty, wisdom, peaceful. These are exactly the type of feelings you want to be portraying in your interview. Blue is a calming color (think ocean and sky) and sends out a signal to the interviewer that you are indeed honest and sincere. Studies have shown that wearing the color blue to an interview will increase your chances of getting hired more than any other color.

Red: In contrast to the color blue, the color red stirs emotions more than any other color. Red is a strong color, very emotional, an extreme color that in an interview scenario can work against you. Unlike blue which has a calming effect, the color red is a fiery color (the color of love and passion), and can be an intimidating color for the interviewer.

Orange: Similar to red. A color that stirs emotion and therefore a color I would avoid wearing in a job interview. Although orange is not seen to be as an aggressive as the color red, it is still perceived as a color that can evoke feelings of power and aggression.

Grey: My second favourite color to wear after blue. Grey gives the look of sophistication and authority. In a corporate environment the color grey is professional and portrays an individual as being confident without being intimidating.

Purple: The color of "Royalty". The color symbolizes power, aristocracy, lavishness, and extravagance.

Black: Be careful when wearing just black to an interview.  The color black is seen as a power color and can be viewed as threatening. Wearing black outfits can portray an individual as being powerful or even arrogant. Black is also associated with negative implications such as death, sin, and fear.

Just remember that first impressions count a lot when you go to interview. Know your audience and dress accordingly.

Great Cruise Vacation In The Caribbean

Situated largely on the Caribbean Plate, the region comprises more than 7,000 islands, islets, reefs, and cays. Also called the West Indies,the region consists of the Antilles, divided into the larger Greater Antilles which bound the sea on the north and the Lesser Antilles on the south and east (including the Leeward Antilles), and the Bahamas.

Caribbean cruise vacations are very popular especially during the winter. This is perhaps because people want to feel warm when the weather back home is cold.

But cruise lines sail along the Caribbean waters all year round. If you don t want to go during the peak season, try booking during the summer because this is the best time to go bargain hunting.

There are a lot of cruise lines to choose from. Some of them include the Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Crystal Cruises. For those who find this to be way out of their budget, they can inquire at Seabourn Cruise Lines.

Let's talk a little bit about these companies.
The Royal Caribbean's fleet offers to the Eastern, Southern and Western Caribbean. You could be away for a few days to a couple of weeks. The Radiance of the Seas for instance sails round trip from Ft. Lauderdale to San Juan, Philipsburg, St. Thomas and Nassau.

Crystal Cruises only has 1 package and this voyage lasts for 12 days. You depart from New York, then move on to Bermuda/Hamilton, then to St. Maarten or Phillipsburg, Antigua, St. John, Curacao or Willemstad, Grand Cayman or Georgetown before heading home to Miami.

The Seabourn Cruise has only 2 packages. You can choose to go on a Caribbean vacation that could last 7 or 13 days. Apart from Fort Lauderdale, you can also catch a ride in New York City and visit Charlotte Amalie (St Thomas), and Bridgetown, Barbados. The best part about being in a yacht compared to a big ship is that it is not very crowded.

You can find out more about these shipping companies by letting your travel agent do the research or browsing online yourself.

By doing so, you will be able to know when are the scheduled their trips, compare their prices and find out what is inclusive in their packages. Once you have confirmed your trip, all you have to do now is pack your bags and leave.

how much money should i plan on spending on a 7 night western Caribbean carnival cruise?

I will not have my debit or credit card on me. This includes the money that i will load on to the card that carnival provides me with. Also can I use the card at their debit machine ?

I'm not so sure about their debit machine, however, on board, you will be paying with your cruise card, which is technically your credit card, since at check in, you either put down your credit card information or put down some cash. Everything you buy on board will need to be paid by your cruise cards, which is also your identify and room key. However, tips should be in cash.

As for spending, I would recommend around 500-700 hundred dollars, depending on how much you are wishing to buy (souvenirs, on board drinks[ pop, alcohol]). $100 a day will be plenty.

London Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2010

Let me take you on a quick tour to view some of the exhibits at London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010

Purrfect - Clements Ribeiro SS10 showcase in the Portico Rooms

“What’s New Pussycat?” played in the background whilst Clements Ribeiro’s models posed in classic black & white embellished with cat motifs for a feline inspired theme. Skirts and dresses were knee length whilst the bubble style shorts were short. Smedley Sea Island cotton joined the signature Scottish cashmere and French silks for this season. Soft pinks, yellows and blues added a touch of colour; stripes were prominent and the prints used were leopard or a swirl of pink, blue & yellow cats.  Black organza fans with zips as stems were inspired by Japanese landscape washes and looked stunning against white silk gazar and faille.  Zips also appeared on the cat motifs to give a hard edge and to accentuate their eyes – making you aware that this quietly purring sexy kitty can also show her claws.

Heads up on the Mad Hatters!

Piers Atkinson had “Sex on the Brain” for his SS10 theme. He went bananas on some of his designs: “Andi” – banana felt hat with glitter detail; “Josephine”- leather with antique banana ornaments; “Andrew Logan for Piers Atkinson” – glittered pillbox with mirrored banana; banana headband with dolly.

J Smith Esquire's SS10 collection titled "Light" included a glamorous and dishevelled creation called "ostrich" made of a boa wig with a sliver encrusted neck corset. “Light” was inspired by shipwrecked treasures and beachcombed relics.

Little Shilpa’s creations fuses the two worlds of Mumbai and London together, with references from the London Underground , Bombay markets and maddening traffic jams (both cities). One design is of a giant blue bow festooned with multi coloured bangles. Another mixes military tassels with Maharaja Ornamentation.

Stephen Jones’s “ABC” SS10 collection is inspired by Art, Beauty & Commerce. The art of Japan, the beauty of France and the commerce of America. Designs include: “Sayoko”- pleated straw hat; “Ayumi” – origami crin flower; “Hideka” – cellophane straw coolie with veil and leather flowers, “Je ne sais quoi” –straw and satin bicorne with rose; “Soixante-neuf” – jersey and straw rose pillbox. No prizes for guessing the countries.

Head over heels in love with the shoes:

This is Sonya Parenti’s debut collection and as she loves the dreamlike erotic essence of Noir films from the fifties, her SS10 collection can be described as dark and sexy.

One of the Newgen winners this year is Michael Lewis whose SS10 collection was inspired by:  Early Kenzo, Russian fairytales (especially Baboushka) and Ray Caeser.

All the way from Iceland is the shoe company Kron. Their SS10 collection sees a mix of colours; suede and leather; frills and bows; chunky high heels all put together to make an eye catching shoe. Maybe not sexy, but definitely girly and fun.

It’s what’s underneath that counts in the Lingerie Boudoir.

Miss Lala Presents went all cute with polka dots and bows in stretchy satin.

Dirty Pretty Things went pretty in pink, but dirty in the bondage mask

And Buttress & Snatch went all soft and feminine with this pure silk, satin and tulle negligee trimmed with vintage velvet flowers.

Handbags at Dawn

Antoni & Alison SS10 collection went all glamorous and Hollywood for their famous screen tests theme.

The handbag label Rocio wanted “to create a collection of handbags that would return fashion to the arts”. These handbags are handmade from the finest sustainable acacia softwood and come embellished in gemstones, fine leathers, crystals and pearls. You certainly don’t want to hide these handbags in the back of your wardrobe.

Tamara Fogle makes bags out of antique textile such as German flour sacks, Hungarian grain sacks, military tents, sailcloth, Welsh blankets and French mattress ticking. The below bags are made of German flour sacks (date range 1830-1940’s) trimmed in chocolate brown Italian leather. The writing which is different on every sack (and so makes each bag unique) states the farmer’s name.

Ready or not, here comes the Ready- to-Wear:

Sass & Bide SS10 ready-to-wear is a collection of gold and silver embellishments on black and off white pieces. Styles included swing tops, caged dresses, gold harem pants and long low fronted pinafore dresses.

Reem’s SS10 vintage collection is called “Bubble and Squeak” – mixing volume and crumble layers; silks and chiffons with punky leather and studs.

Bodyamr’s SS10 collection was inspired by the clean lines of early ready- to- wear American Fashion and the colour palette of peaches, coral, aqua, silver and gold was inspired by David Hockney’s Beverly Hills pool series. Silk jersey, silk satin and liquid chiffon create fluidity in the clothes.

MFP- MariaFrancescaPepe’s SS10 collection is named “Bathing Beauties”.  The choice of fabrics used create the illusion of sea and sand : moiré- with its rippled appearance so similar to the ripples in  wet sand, silk jersey – with its fluidity for movement of water and silky jacquards reflecting light on water. Fins decorate one dress and hat whilst pieces of brass jewellery are moulded in to pleats and coated in metallic blues and greens to represent ripples in water.

Sam Ubhi has an eclectic mixture of designs and material due to taking inspiration when visiting different countries.

Nicholas King’s collection cleverly takes beads, sequins, watch faces and other creative pieces, then “preserves” them in clear resin to make chunky cuffs and necklaces. You’ll never lose a bead again!

Leju use a special Amazonian seed known as vegetable ivory as a sustainable alternative to elephant ivory. Rich colours are created by staining and dying the seed with natural plant extract and oils. This season’s collection is called “Goddess” with warmer metals of 24kt gold and copper brought in to give a softer feminine feel.

Australian student go to college in America - silly idea?

I am a highschool student in Australia, I want to become a journalist and go to college in America, my parents dont like the idea and wouldnt pay for it so i would have to earn the money myself but have 4 years to save.
Is it a silly idea or should i go through with it? I really want to do this and prove them wrong

St. Lucia: A Tale of Two Airports

Many travelers and even travel professionals are confused by the two airport system in St. Lucia. This article will help to sort out the historical and practical reasons for two airports and discuss the issues travelers face when planning a trip to St. Lucia.

Hewanorra International Airport (UVF)
Hewanorra (from the Amerindian word for "place of the iguana") is the international airport. Constructed in the late 1930's by the US military (the US Navy had signal corps personnel based in St. Lucia during WWII), it is located in the far southeastern corner of the island adjacent to the local town of Vieux Fort. This is the only area of this ruggedly mountainous island that has a large enough flat area to contain a long runway. Due to the prevailing easterly winds, the runway points to the east. Nearly all approaches to the runway are from the west over the sea. As the plane makes its final approach to landing, passengers on the left side of the aircraft are treated to spectacular views of the Pitons, and those on the right enjoy a hazy view of the mountains of St Vincent about 20 miles away.

This runway is long enough to accommodate the largest jets, so all international jet traffic must be routed into Hewanorra. If you are on an international flight from the UK or a North American gateway, this will be your destination airport. By Caribbean standards,  this is a medium-sized airport. There are 8—10 duty-free shops and a couple of snack bars, plenty of available cabs, and tour operator and hotel reps to greet new arrivals.

Airport Transfers from Hewanorra—What to Expect
Since nearly all hotels and resorts on the island are located on the west side of the island (especially the northwest corner), all arrivals into Hewanorra face a lengthy cab ride to their hotel (Coconut Bay Resort is the one major hotel located near this airport, plus a few smaller hotels). Though the distance is only 20+ miles, the narrow, winding roads and traffic make it a slow commute. Travel to the Soufriere (Pitons) area will be around 45 minutes; travel to the many resorts north of Castries will be around 90 minutes. Still, this is an interesting journey—your first island tour! The route will take you along the Atlantic coast, up to Dennery, and across the interior where you will see your first excellent mountain vistas. Then you'll follow a valley heading toward the Caribbean coast, entering the very interesting Caribbean city and sea port of Castries, which is home to most of the local populace (banana boats may be loading and cruise ships may be docked here). Exiting the city, you will pass the other airport as you enter the main roadway to the north en route to the many hotels and resorts of this neighborhood.

George F Charles Airport (SLU)
The second airport, the George F Charles Airport, is sometimes referred to as "Vigie" from the name of the locale. Named in honor of a prominent statesman of the 1950's, this is a smaller airport with a smaller runway, so commercial jets are not allowed. This regional airport is serviced primarily by the regional airlines Liat and Caribbean Star (featuring the Dash 8 airliner which seats around 30 passengers), and American Eagle flights from San Juan (some US travelers reach St. Lucia via this route). Connections go to Barbados, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Trinidad, Martinique and Antigua. These are aboard a slightly larger turboprop aircraft seating around 60 passengers. Other international passengers may arrive here on a regional airline connecting to an international flight from nearby Barbados.

Services here are limited to a small snack bar and one very small duty-free shop. There are car rental booths, an organized cab system, and many tour operators or hotel reps to greet new arrivals. Pictures on the walls depict the runway as it was in the 1950's—only a small shanty but no real terminal.

Once You've Landed
Arrivals at either airport will be expected to complete an immigration form and to speak first to an immigration officer and then a customs officer once luggage is claimed. Upon departure from either airport, each passenger will be assessed a departure tax of approximately $20 US.

In summary, the northern airport is much handier to most resorts and certainly much handier to the city of Castries. But, if arriving by jet from the UK or North America, this airport is simply not an option. American Airlines is the only carrier with scheduled flights to both airports. The airport of your arrival is not subject to your choice but is predetermined according to the airline you are flying.

Hot Tips
Some additional tips for airport transfers and cabs in St. Lucia:
• Always check with your booking agency to find out if transfers are included in your package and if you will be greeted upon arrival.
• If you have not prepaid for transfers, the cab fare is set by law and not metered.
• It is always appropriate to ask the fare before departure to avoid subsequent misunderstandings.
• Tipping is appropriate.
• Cab fare will vary according to precise destination and number of passengers; in general, the cost of a cab to a northern resort will run around $75 US plus tip.
