Rain jacket will cover your upper body only. In raincoat variety, you can go for trench, poncho, button down, cuff, or even slicker. Length is what you have to do decide according to your own need.
There are two types of raincoats: zipper and buttons. Zipper keeps you warm during chilly winds and heavy rain shower. It will keep your body warmed up properly. If you live where high humidity level is common, then a button down will be a better option as you can easily take it off.
It is completely up to your choice about what kind of raincoat you need for yourself and how much money you want to use. You can even buy designers rain coat from a well known brand or buy it a plastic poncho from one dollar shop.

Where can I get a really stylish raincoat/mac/needs to be hooded?
I'm going to a music festival....i need a rain coat obvs! i've got a big plastic poncho thing, but it aint pretty....i'm thinking something with a Cath Kidson style print? If anyone remember the ones from HnM in the winter? yeh...kinda like those...perhaps with a tie waist belt?
