weight of suitcase (baggage) for plane. What's an average suitcase weight?

I have booked a flight and I am told I can have 1 bag free. It's all measured in kg's and I have no idea of how much my stuff weighs. Usually I take a suitcase for myself & one for my 10year old. So I am confused. Can I take suitcases as usual? will that count as a bag - it all seems to go up in kg's. I was going to just book 1 more bag to cover it for my daughter. But am I going to have to ditch the cases and bye bags for us instead?
So blige rat, I could take an average suitcase and not have to go and buy bags? I guess that more or less what yr saying .....

Phillip G. Ok, sounds useful! Was worried to phone up & pay extortionate phone bill charges..... maybe I should just book it - but that looks like about £40 - this started as a 'cheap flight'

This isn't a straighforward subject.

Who are you flying with?

Normally you are allowed 15 kg or 20 kg per person and I would assume that is one bag per passenger in the hold (the bags that you check in) plus upto 5 kg each of hand luggage this must be one piece each of a certain size.

If you're flying with a budget airline the rules may be different.

I know that jet2 for example allows one piece of hand luggage per passenger, but you get charged for any luggage in the hold. I flew with them recently and we all took one piece of hand luggage below 5kg and below a certain size on the plane with us to avoid the additional charge.

A suitcase and a bag is classed as the same thing.

Aer lingus charge you per bag checked in and each bag must be below 20 kg. You are best off booking the baggage and paying online as it works out cheaper.
