Dog chewed bone and there was some blood on bone, what happened?
Ok so my big dog got a HUGE BONE for Christmas and my little old 11 year old chihuahua got ahold of it behind my back. So when I pulled it away from her I noticed some blood on it. It wasn't a huge amount, but it was a lil amount that sort of scared me. I checked her mouth and noticed her gum was sorta odd looking on one side, like kinda red and looked like a tooth was gone. But when I checked again her tooth was there...I was wondering why her gum was bleeding and why was it red and puffy like.
I'm sort of broke until friday...so some insight info will be loads of help b4 I can take her to the vet. Also if possible, is there any good way to clean off the messed up part of her gum so that it wont get infected or anything.
Note: my dog doesnt seemed to bothered by anything in her mouth, she acts like nothing happend even if it looks odd. Will it go away?
A lot of older dogs will get this to some degree when chewing a bone.
It is where the gums are not in the best of health and they bleed. It would be good if you could get her teeth looked at in case there is a bad case of gingivitis there, but if you see no more blood for now then the safest way to treat this until Friday is salt water. Just do a mild solution which would be one teaspoon to one pint of cool boiled water and see if you can swish any onto the gums without her drinking it.
It will not harm her if she does swallow some unlike any other preparation.
