Travel Accessories To Use When You Take A Laptop Computer Away With You
There are a lot of professions in this world where one needs to or gets to travel a lot and that too quite frequently. Such jobs inherently require the traveler to carry his workstation i.e. his laptop with him. Whether you're a journalist, an investment banker, a client servicing executive or a travel writer, you see more of your laptop than your entire family. Even tourists who travel to distant destinations often carry their laptops so that they can stay connected even while on the move. Let us take a look at some of the travel accessories that such people could use on their trips. If you're expecting to see the laptop's power cord on this list, this article's not for you. Travel accessories
for the computer mean way more than that.
- Converters and Adapters – Anyone who has traveled to some Asian country with his laptop will know how important it is know that different countries use different volts of electricity as the standard amount. Most Americans use 110V while the oriental countries use 220V sockets. To make sure that your laptop does not malfunction, make sure you carry the right kind of converters and adapters.
- Wireless Cards in case of Old laptops – A lot of people have been in the business of traveling and working on the move for a long time. This means that some of them are still using machines that do not have an
integrated wireless Ethernet router. This is the device in modern laptops that helps them connect to Wi-Fi networks in hotels and cafes all around the world. In case of old laptops, you'd need to have an external Ethernet router that detects the wireless signal. - USB based broadband drive – At times, your travels might lead you to places where you might not have Wi-Fi facilities, but your work demands that you stay connected. Your only call to escape from such tight spots could be a USB based broadband service that has the roaming facility enabled. This service uses a phone chip also known as a SIM card inside a USB device that you can plug into your laptop to enable the connectivity.
- Extra Data Storage Space – When traveling for a long time along with your virtual workstation with you it is only natural that you will want to utilize all the free space in the machine and beyond. If you are dealing with too much data, you might want to carry some extra storage devices like hard disks and pen drives because burning a disk is not always the best option.
- Dust Protection Devices – People who work out of the office often have to go for field work. Architects, journalists, builders or archaeologists fall under this category. One of the main priorities in such cases is protecting the machine from dust. A good laptop carry bag and a mini vacuum cleaner are good options to carry along.
So you can see, travel accessories for a traveling geek include many more gizmos than a mere power adapter. Having these around will ensure that your work never suffers because of where you are.

2 amp sockets... can I use one to power a stereo??
Hi all, I am goin on holiday to Amsterdam on thursday, staying in a chalet. I have been told by the campsite that the chalets have a 2 Amp power socket. However, the small stereo that I am taking is 13 Amps. I have bought a travel adaptor that can power appliances upto 2000 Watts
My question is this... if I plug in my travel adapter to the 2 Amp chalet socket, and then my stereo into the adapter, will it work?
If not.. could you please offer any suggestions on how I could power my 13 Amp appliance with this 2 Amp supply
Thanks in advance for any help
A 'small' stereo that draws 13 amps??? Are you sure that it's not 13 WATTS? A whole lot of difference.
For your travel adapter, re-read the specs. It probably says 2,000 watts for short-use appliances such as shavers, hair dryers, etc. But probably more like 60 or 75 watts for continuous use appliances.
If your stereo is, in fact, operating at 13 watts, then you're good to go. But if it's really taking 13 AMPS, as you said, then even with a voltage converter, the socket is going to see a 6.5 amp draw and trip the breaker. Not to mention, your travel adapter kit probably burning out after an hour or two of usage.
