Is a Handbag a girls best friend?

I recently read a thread on Mumsnet which asked ‘what's in your handbag'.  I read with amusement the answers, some quite seriously listing their contents and some leaving short quips and it made me think, a handbag really is a girl's best friend.  It keeps you together, it knits your life in a seamless way and makes sure you have all those little itty bitty things you need when you're on the go.

For example, apart from the normal purse, phone, keys, makeup, & tissues, I was surprised, well not really, at the amount of technical gadgets we girls carry around.  From Iphones to Ipads as well as the odd Kindle our bags are now an IT geek's haven.

It was also interesting to see the ‘other' items which were listed, pictures of the family, a mountain of children's equipment from nappies to toy tractors, spare clothes and crayons.  As well as the less normal items including a glass cutter, a bottle of prosecco and a swiss army knife!

So are we carrying around more than 10 years ago?

This list is not a mean feat to lug about, an ipad is not small and alongside the rest of this paraphernalia it cannot be a light load either. So, as well as wanting to carry more are bags getting bigger?  Yes, I think they are.  We have seen a huge increase in large shoulder bag sales in the last few years with women wanting a more unstructured slouchy cavernous carry all bags, and from this small list from 17 ladies we can see why.

The large tote bag dominated the bag arena this season with block colour totes at every major high street fashion store, fulfilling the needs of women who need to carry more.

As well as seeing larger shoulder bags too, we have seen a new emerging trend, the mini bag which only holds the essentials needed by the individual and not the whole family.  I'm sure useful for ladies who not yet have the need for all the other ‘family' stuff, who can sashay around in the knowledge that for now, they are able to travel light.  However, this may be a short lived affair and they may, at some point, need to succumb to the larger bag.

We're now also seeing the ‘double bagger' trend, a mini bag slung over the shoulder and a carry all tote or top handle used to lug about the big stuff.  Double baggers choose to keep things separate, ‘personal' as well as ‘kitchen sink', neatly placed in two bags so easily found and happily organised.

So, I think we all agree, a girls best friend stays by your side at all times, is loyal and can get you out of a multitude of scrapes along the way.  It can entertain you, soothe you, and surprise you now and again with its contents.  The only major worry now is which one to to buddy up with today!

Do you believe inanimate objects have feelings????

I switched up to a large tote for my trash cans this week negating the need for my piddly little trash cans. Whilst dragging my old piddly trash cans to the street where they would meet their makers, they got a little speedy on the ice, knocked me down and smashed up my hands.....

Did i just get "told" by a couple of garbage cans?

stop laughing.....jerx!!!!!!!

Yes they do and that is why I treat the razor in with which I shave my ballzac with the utmost respect
