The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando is one of the top tourist destinations in the world. There's no better place to find a little bit of magic for all ages. Visiting Walt Disney World can be expensive, with tickets alone for the average size family setting you back hundreds of dollars. Unfortunately, finding Walt Disney World cheap vacation packages can be difficult whereas discounts on Orlando's other theme parks are much easier to come by.

However, there are so many other ways to save money at Walt Disney World, and whether you book your vacation through one source, or cobble together several methods, getting cheap Disney World vacation packages isn't hard to do. You can also save substantial money on admission passes, meals, extra entertainment offerings, airfare, rental cars and more.

For instance, Disney World offers annual theme park passes to encourage visitors to return. If you plan to visit two or more times a year, it pays to buy the annual pass as it will save you a good deal of money. The savings is significant over buying individual one-day passes if you can visit the resort at least twice a year.

Many people may not know that recently, Disney has extended their annual pass from 12 months to 15 months. Disney World wants you to stay longer at their theme parks rather than spending your vacation money at the rival Universal Studios or any of the other 50 attractions in the Orlando area.

Another great money saving tip is to stay at a nearby hotel or resort. Many of the off-property resorts that are nearby will offer a free shuttle service to and from the park, operating regularly throughout the day. You can also rent a car and stay at a rental home or condo in the area.

What are some good tips for a five day vacation at Disney World?

We are days away from our family vacation. We are staying at The French Quarter Resort. I just wanted to know if anybody had tips on making our time at DW the best it could be. Some that I have heard:
1. Start at the back of the park.
2. Make your restaurant reservations ahead of time.
3. Take plenty of water.
4. Bring a photo/autograph book.

If there are any other tips that you feel we could benefit from, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

You're going to have a great time at Disney, especially at Port Orleans French Quarter! I'll start with some of my tips for the resort, and go from there.

Tip for French Quarter:
-Take a walk over to the Riverside, it's very short and there's some fun things to do over there. My favorite is renting the surrey bike & taking it on the loop around both resorts.
-Order beignet's at least once at the Sassagoula Floatworks cafeteria. It's on the French Quarter side, and they are delicious! I wish I had ordered them more often.
-On your first day, buy a refillable mug at the Sassagoula Floatworks. It's about $13, and you can refill it for free for your entire stay! My husband & I constantly had ours filled before the parks. You can take it into the park, and refill it at the water fountains in there too. Saves on buying bottled water all day!
-You can take a ferry right from the French Quarter over to Downtown Disney. It's a very short & peaceful ride, and the ferries come constantly. It's a nice way to spend an afternoon or evening.
-Don't forget that you can use all the amenities that Port Orleans Riverside offers as well. If your pool is packed, go check out the pools on the other side. Same w/the arcade, cafeteria's, and anything else you can think of.

Tips for the Parks
-The biggest & best tip I can give you is to go into the parks right as they open. The parks get crowded a few hours after they open, but right at opening time it's not crowded yet. You can walk on some major rides, or get great character pictures w/little to no waits.
-Starting at the back of the park isn't always the way to go. At the Magic Kingdom, the thing I would do is go counter clockwise. Most people go right to Tomorrowland, but if you go left into Adventureland, you'll find no crowds until later in the day. At Epcot, visit the World Showcase as soon as it opens (usually it opens 2 hours later than Future World.) Most people visit World Showcase later in the day, when they are done w/Future World. If you do the opposite, you'll encounter fewer crowds. For Hollywood Studios, you will want to go at open, and get a fastpass for Toy Story Mania, and then walk over to Aerosmith's Rock N Roller Coaster. These 2 attractions have long waits all day, all year long. So getting them done early w/no waits is key. Then grab a fast pass for Tower of Terror, and see some shows. AK is very full of very windy, narrow trails. I do think going straight all the way back to Expedition Everest and working your way forward is a good way to go.
-Take plenty of water is a good tip. Bring a bottle of water or a refillable mug to fill all day at the fountains.
-Make your reservations 180 days in advance at http://www.disney.com or by calling 1-407-WDW-DINE. Restaurants do book up that far in advance, especially the best ones. If 180 days has already passed, call today & make your reservations.
-You can bring an autograph book, or buy one in any of the parks. They sell a lot of cute Disney ones for you to take to meet characters. Most of them do sign, some don't.
-For any fireworks or parades, plan on getting a spot 45 minutes in advance, at least. For Fantasmic, I recommend going even earlier. I went 45 minutes ahead of time in May and nearly got shut out.
-Watch IllumiNations from the Future World side of the lagoon. Too many people think it's best to watch it from the World Showcase side of the lagoon. All the countries are part of the show, and light up. You have a good view of all of them from the WS lagoon side.
-If you have time, head over to the Polynesian and catch the Electric Water Pageant on the water. Then, you can see the Wishes Fireworks over the castle from the beach too. It's a really special experience, and usually isn't terribly crowded.
